


Walking outside our hotel on the first night the public park boasted singles and couples and families seated on the park benches cuddling cats. Children were playing happily on the artificial turf at eleven at night with their doting parents looking on.
The coast of Lima is elevated over the Pacific. You can see the white lines of waves on the grey-blue water like curls of paint placed by an artist’s knife.
The food is sophisticated. The ancient Andean people cultivated the potato, the tomato, countless varieties of delicious ingredients and ways of preparing them.
I experienced my first earthquake, a 5.7 that shook my hotel and sent dozens of people out onto the street. Then we just went back in.
